A note from the UES newsletter editor, Andrea Mitchell
When I think back over the many Sundays of sharing good food at UES, my mind always returns to one of the first potlucks I can remember sharing with this congregation. I don’t recall any of the food that was on the table, but I distinctly remember how I felt. Sylvia Norton (who I now know to be the unofficial UES kitchen queen) was at the end of the line and politely asked what I’d like to drink. I was unaccustomed to being “served” at a potluck (usually, it’s a fill-your-own-plate and hope you grow a third hand by the time you get to the beverages.) At once, I felt at home, as if I had landed among the “gracious” ones. It was a small act, but memorable.
So, I decided it was time for our “KQ” (that’s “kitchen queen”) to share from her well-regarded bounty of recipes. Here’s one she said her mom always made at this time of year and it was a scrumptious favorite.
